I'm now entering the third decade of my Super Marimba project. Most of my releases so far have been solo efforts, but this is a collaboration with Grammy-award winning frame drummer Glen Velez. Glen's music has been a major inspiration for me for 20 years so this is a honor to be working with him.

I created all the music and then Glen and I spent an enjoyable afternoon recording his drumming tracks. I only had to give him a few instructions and he took it from there. His ear for just the right pattern combined with a deep sense of groove and phrasing took these tracks to a whole new level.

Over the years I've built up a highly personalized Super Marimba vocabulary that includes a specific and codified approach to improvisation, with ample room for spontaneous sonic creation. Some of this music begins with pencil and paper, some is generated at the instrument, and some of it is developed at the computer. Super Marimba is at the center of my creative life; it's my my homebase, my focus, my passion. --Payton MacDonald
